As Memorial Day approaches, the team at American Wear would like to express our gratitude for the men and women in the United States Military. Without these brave men and women, we would not be able to have the freedoms we enjoy in this great country. Anytime we can give back to the members of the military, we jump at the chance. There are a number of charities out there specifically geared towards veterans and their needs. If you are looking for a way to support veterans this Memorial Day, check out these deserving charities.

Hope For the Warriors

This charity was founded in 2006 by a group of military wives who saw firsthand how hard it was for their spouses to get readjusted to life back home. They strive to offer help to military members who have experienced physical and psychological trauma in the line of duty. They raise money for things like educational programs and wellness workshops. You can support Hope for the Warriors by making a donation via their website.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society

For nearly a century, the Navy-Marine Relief Society has been helping military members with financial assistance and educational opportunities. There are nearly 250 offices set up for this charity. They have provided over $40 million dollars’ worth of loans and grants to military members and their families over the years. Widows and survivors are also eligible to receive funding from this charity.

Wounded Warriors Family Support

Started by Marine Corps Colonel John Folsom, the Wounded Warriors Family Support charity helps the family members of service members who have been injured or killed during combat operations. They provide retreats where wounded veterans and their families can spend time together in a low-stress environment. These retreats are provided to help wounded warriors and their family get over the stresses of war and get back to a normal way of life.

Puppies Behind Bars

The main goal of the Puppies Behind Bars is to provide ware veterans with service dogs. These dogs are trained by prison inmates and live with them for about 8 months. Many studies have shown that training the dogs gives the inmates a sense of purpose. The service dogs are provided to the military members free of charge.

Homes For Our Troops

Severely injured troops who return home from war are able to get homes with the help of the Homes for Our Troops charity. This charity was started in 2004 and builds homes specially designed for wounded veterans. Not only are these homes completely customized, they are given to the veterans free of charge. Since this organization was founded, they have built over 170 homes for veterans all across the country.

American Wear encourages you to give back to these brave men and women. There are countless charities out there, so get out and find one you are passionate about.
