Here at American Wear we have deep roots in the housekeeping and hospitality industry. While you work to make sure that guests are enjoying their experience, we want to make sure that you’re able to be comfortable while you work. But where did our modern hospitality practices begin? We’re taking a look back at some of the most legendary hotels in America and finding the practices that have allowed them to stay popular throughout the years.

The Beverly Hills Hotel

This historic hotel was built before Beverly Hills was even a city! Built in 1912, the developer named the hotel after his home, Beverly Farms, in Massachusetts. The hotel spreads over 12 acres and was built in the Mission Revival style, but didn’t receive its signature pink exterior until the late 1940’s. The Plaza Hotel

First opening its gilded doors in 1907, The Plaza hotel has enjoyed a celebrity status (and guests) ever since. Of course, the hotel has hosted many historic, famous guests but a few of the most notable highlights over the years include architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s residence for 6 years, Home Alone 2 filmed in the lobby, and of course the first publications of Eloise. Michigan’s Grand Hotel

One of the oldest hotels on our list, the Grand Hotel opened on Mackinac Island in 1886. With a record breaking 660-foot front porch and nearly 130,000 overnight guests each season, the Grand Hotel is a sight to behold. Of course, the Grand Hotel wouldn’t be complete without legendary landscaping. More than 40,000 seasonal bulbs are planted each fall and 125,000 bedding plants are planted each season. The view from the hotel is a quite a sight and nearly one million people take a trip to see Mackinac Island each year. Learn more about the history of the hotel and see how it has changed over the years.
