We are proud to be a family owned business here in New Jersey, and our values all trickle down from our fearless leader: John Auriemma. John has everything on his plate, from operations to marketing to administration, and holds up the backbone of American Wear.
John grew up in Nutley, New Jersey, and got his first glimpse of the uniform business early on. His father started in the industry in 1951.
“I started driving on the delivery truck with him when I was five years old,” John said. “I learned the business and valuable customer service lessons at an early age.”
John attended Seton Hall University and graduated with a degree in accounting and marketing. Before starting American Wear, he spent four years as a Certified Public Accountant with Pricewaterhouse Coopers.
As the president and owner of American Wear, he is responsible for managing the day to day operations of the company, but also makes a point to interact with customers personally.
“I spend part of my time on administration duties,” he said, “but a large amount of my time is spent visiting potential and existing customers in order to bring in new business and keep existing customers satisfied.”
John takes great pride in owning a family business, and doesn’t take his responsibilities as president lightly. He has worked together with his father, mother, and cousin Dean for many years.
“My mom and dad have passed away, but our business was the foundation for the close relationship that we all valued,” John said. “We take great pride in the quality of our service and our commitment to employees and customers. From the tens of thousands of people who wear our uniforms every day to our eighty employee and their families, we have the responsibility to make sure everyone is happy.”
After managing American Wear for 32 years, John has seen considerable change in the industry, but believes American Wear is uniquely set up to succeed in the future.
“Part of the change was the exit of most mom and pop companies such as our own,
he said. “Today, our only competition is in the form of four publicly owned, nationwide companies. These competitors cannot come close to our personal attention, outstanding customer service and value. As a result, our future is very bright for retaining our existing customers and attracting new customers.”
John wants customers to know he is always available to discuss their uniform programs, additional services, and any issues that may arise. He invites customers to email him at JohnA@Americanwear.com or call his cell at (973) 418-1888.
